OVERALL PERSONALITY ,
Well, to discuss James' personality would be to discuss it into parts. The Then and the Now.
THEN.
James is one of those obnoxious people who is naturally good at most everything he tries. He can achieve passing marks without studying, adapt to different sports, uphold a rad debate and about anything. A common misconception about James is that he's dim. No matter how much James makes a Ravenclaw do his homework (or begs them to, at least), James is a very bright student. He's just incredibly lazy. He's got the thoughts in his head, but the thing is, he doesn't give a damn. He doesn't care enough to apply himself to anything. He simply just sits around and enjoys things being handed to him just because he's attractive. If the system works for you, why mess with it?
James is incredibly loyal. His family are the most important part of his life, because arguably, they are the only things he has. He keeps them close to his heart, and once he accepts you, you're set for life. He will make sure you are always happy, always having fun, always as good as you can be.
His charm is one of his greatest strenths. He is definitely the boy his grandfather was. If he wants to be, he is charming, charismatic, polite, and respectful. The boy knows his manners, thank you very much, but only when he wnats to. He is able to easily win people over, with a mixture of his winning smile and his smooth talking. He has a load of control over his emotions, and so, if it benefits him, he can pretend to be best friends with his worst enemy. However, this strength is usually completely trumphed by his immaturity. He can be very immature. He likes attention, and when he doesn't get it, he is not above whining. His pranks border on childish sometimes, as does the way he treats other people. He has a hard time seeing how he affects other because he is the center of the world in his opinion. Because of this, he can be very stupid and reckless, bordering on dangerous.
However, most people can have a laugh at him without him risking himself for it. He has this charismatic sense of humor and tends to make even the most uptight person chuckle. He loves to talk and talk and talk. It brings attention to his self and he adores attention. That's why he'll even dress up in the most ridiculously obnoxious fashion when it comes to holiday's. A detention is worth a bunch of admiring stares, right?
NOW.
Nowadays, James' arrogance has increased ten fold and not in a good way. He needs to know that people still like him. He's good looking, and he knows it. Some people worship the ground he walks on, and he knows it. Not only does he know it, he milks it. This arrogance has gotten in the way of how he treats other people. While he can be an incredible friend to his family and friends, his fangirls and acquaintances aren't so lucky. James has been giving off a definite air that others are not worth his time.
Though he is known for his laid back, cheerful attitude, the moment someone crosses his best mates, his temper is thunderous. It flares up unexpectedly, and when it doesn, it's nothing to be proud of. James will yell and insult you until you run crying home to your mother, and then, he'll be waiting for you when you get back. In his own frustrations, it's not unheard of that he punches a hole in the wall.
As of late, you can see James lurking about at night, being unusually quiet and mysterious. If you make eye contact, he'll smile and chat with you before running off again into the old, unused corridors of Hogwarts. He has been tending to act a bit off by being on high alert and twitch-y. His friends have caught notice of this weird change in their friend. At first they thought it was N.E.W.T.'s and that for the first time James might actually be worried about a grade, but they dismissed this as out of character for James and now they're simply worried because James has been out of character for the past few months.
James' humor sense has also digressed. He hasn't been speaking up out of class and whenever he says something, it's usually a biting sarcastic comment or a harsh opinion. He has been seen to make more people upset with his bitter "humor".

OVERALL HISTORY ,
James Sirius Potter was born to Harry and Ginevra Potter on September 7th. As a baby, James was known as the devil child. He would tend to make Harry and Ginny want to rip their hair out. He would cry incessantly and make such a mess of play time, feeding time, and well, pooping time. Harry and Ginny would constantly beg Molly Weasley to take care of James so that they could actually get a wink of sleep. Even as a baby, James Potter was a trouble maker.
Harry and Ginny felt relief as James grew into a toddler, thinking he'd be better once he could talk and walk for himself. Oh, how wrong they were. James was a terrible child. He would somehow find himself into the messiest of situations, embarrassing Harry and Ginny especially at dinner parties or family get together's. He liked adventure and to make people stare at him. He liked having the attention of his family on him (he had quite a big family). As he grew older into a more developed child, his thirst for attention and greatness increased. He began to take up the role of his paternal grandfather and name sakes and began to wreak havoc upon all the unsuspecting souls. Him and his best friend Fred were the next generation of well known trouble makers. At first they did everything themselves, but the lazy boys realized it was a lot of work to out prank Fred, George, and the Marauders and so they created a new group called the New World Order. They had about six or seven people added to this group and from there they became the most comical and feared group in all of Hogwarts. However, you can always still find James and Fred running around performing their own little jokes and pranks.
James soon became known as Gryffindor's New Golden Boy (Were all the eldest Potter boy's destined for this?). Him and Fred were amongst the most popular of the school and they milked the attention like a farmer milking a cow. However, recently, James has been treading on the wrong side of the tracks. He has been drifting away from his friends and him and Fred have already been seen hexing each other with a few of the "bad kids" backing up James. There has been rumours floating around about James joining the death, but you can't really trust the gossip of Hogwarts, now can you?

Albus sat up in bed, breathing heavily. He wiped his forehead, making his hand wet with sweat. He shivered and got up, putting on flannel pants and a muscle tank. He looked at the girl in his bed and sighed. Grabbing his wand and a cigarette, he slipped his feet into loafers and made his way down the stairs to the Slytherin common room. He really hated this common room. It was always so dark and seductive, not in the good way either. His eyes traveled around the dark room, making sure no one else was awake. It was about midnight though, and he was rather surprised. Many more people, especially in this house, were awake until the next morning. He wasn't even sure if any of his fellow house mates went to any morning classes. He knew he didn't. He used to get in trouble by his family at first, but they learned to accept Albus' silent, but deadly ways. He made his way out of the door and shivered once again as the cold air hit him smack in the face. He should have brought a coat. How idiotic of him. He shook his head in shame anyway, deciding to go the kitchens for a midnight snack.
When he was little and had nightmares, he'd wake up his mom and she'd whip up some cookies and they would share a glass of milk together and he'd tell her about his dream. Albus was actually quite close with his parents, before Hogwarts years that is. Albus had even shared his fears about house placement with his father, something he had never even admitted to himself. He had always looked up to his parents with pride, as people he hoped to aspire to someday. Now, he really didn't want anything to do with his name at all. He was planning to change his name as soon as he turned 18, the muggle's adult age. Albus rolled his eyes at the professors walking around. Like they would DARE say anything or stop him. Firstly, they were so clueless and incompetent at their jobs. He muttered a quick disillusioning spell and rolled his eyes once again as the charms professor shakily made their way past him. He shoved his hands into his pockets and pushed his snakebites in and out of his lip with his tongue.
He stopped in front of the kitchens and pulled out his cigarette. With a swift tap he lit it and inhaled deeply. He knew that everyone hated his bad habits. The sleeping around, the quiet, brooding personality, and the smoking. James always lectured him on it, and frankly, he didn't care. It was his life, his body. If he liked smoking, so be it. No one, not his mother nor his grandmother was going to stop him. Besides, he actually thought he looked quite good with a fag in one hand and smoke blowing out of his mouth. He sighed and began to think of his family. His idiotic, childish, immature, and amazing family. Really, he was so thankful for such a family, yet felt as if his family was a curse. He was cursed with the bane of his existence. His own personal hell. He didn't deserve such a family. It was unfair and cruel. God was just a manipulative bastard sitting on his throne, designing everyone's lives to be filled with the most misery anyone can imagine. Either that, or he despised Albus with some sort of passion.
Albus paused and turned around to the entrance hall. He could've sworn he saw his mother right there. He pulled out his wand and held it out as he approached the doors to the entrance hall. He opened the doors and stepped in with a thump. He listened closely and heard a bit of muttering. With a suppressed grin, he made his way to the hourglasses that showed the house points. He bent down and looked at his sister with a held in laugh. "Lilykins, didn't mum ever remind you that it wasn't good for little girls to sneak out? The boogeyman is going to get you, otherwise!"
