pandora ran a hand softly down the side of her dress, smoothing out the black material of her ball gown as she took another glance in the mirror. she wasn't entirely sure why she was so intent on looking nice, but it happened regardless of her feelings towards the event itself. somehow, despite the balls and parties losing their charm, pandora never failed to find some type of enjoyment in the dressing up aspect of it. sure, it took some work and was a bit frustrating, but pan had never lost interest in it. finding the perfect outfit for the evening and primping her hair was just as magical as it had been as a child. the events themselves might have been rather awful throughout the years, but preparing for them had always made her feel... well, princess-like. she chuckled lightly to herself at that thought. ha, princess-like. what am i, five? she mentally teased herself. she hated to admit it, but on nights like these, she was one of those silly girls.
after messing lightly with her hair, and a few more glances in the full-length mirror, she retreated to her dresser on the opposite end of the room to retrieve her earrings and a few silver bracelets. a quiet sigh left her lips as she slipped on the bracelets and put on the earrings. she took another look around her room as if something had changed or as if she had forgotten something but then swiftly moved towards the doorway, heading out into the hallway. she made her way across the hallway, into the other wing of the house, the music from the event itself growing louder as she crept closer. aside from the ballroom, the rest of the house was silent, which was rather common for their household. pan had always hated the silence and it was for that very reason why she was somewhat fond of the boring events her parents held.
she inhaled rather sharply as she reached the top of the stairs that ascended down to the ballroom. although she had attended these events many times, she had always felt rather jittery when first entering them. she was confident, sure, but there was something about ascending the staircase that made her a little bit nervous. everyone standing in that room knew her as pandora malfoy. another one of the malfoy children and another piece of pureblood meat that would, as the family hoped, married off to some other pureblood. most the people there judged her for her family, her appearance and for what they believed her to be. just that thought alone made her a bit nervous. it wasn't so much that she cared as it was that she was just bothered by it. breaking people's initial judgment had always been rather hard.
she ascended the staircase in a poised manner, a rather quick stride, but graceful nonetheless. she studied the room carefully, surveying the room for the people that she and scorpius had decided to sneak in. after all, what fun would the ball be unless they invited the people their parents hated the most? she didn't spot anyone immediately, but she sent a few nods and waves in the directions of a few family friends, people who had actually been invited. there were a few exchanges of "lovely seeing you here," and "my you've grown!" from a few of older guests, but there was not yet anyone worth having a full out conversation with. once she had made her rounds, greeting everyone she knew for the sake of being polite, she made her way to the tables set up on the opposite end of the room, sliding into one of the chairs.
it looked as though scorpius had yet to sneak in their friends. he had somehow managed to find a way to sneak them out of hogwarts and into the house undetected, and pan was confident enough in his plan to refrain from questioning him. scorp had always been good at these types of plans so she had no doubt that eventually people she knew would begin to show up. though, she couldn't help but to be a tad bit disappointed with the fact that the person she wanted to see most wasn't going to be attending. it had been rather hard to meet charlie anywhere for longer than an hour or two because of his work load, but she had hoped he could make an exception for the day and attend the ball, but to her disappointment he had explained that he wouldn't be able to make it. she understood, of course, but she couldn't help but to feel a tad bit disappointed. it was probably for the best though, if he had shown up they would have to keep things on the down low and avoid her parents at all costs. she knew all too well they wouldn't approve of her dating a weasley, but at the same time she didn't really care much of their opinion on it. if she listened to what her parents wanted, she'd wind up married to some git whom had the same "values" as her parents, and she definitely didn't want that lifestyle.
she surveyed the room once again as she leaned lightly against the table. she still hadn't spotted anyone in particular, but her gaze was rather fascinated with the few people who were dancing. after a few moments of watching she had rather zoned out completely, just watching the people who were there. because of this, it took quite a few moments for her to realize that someone had come up behind her. in fact, she hadn't really noticed at all until she started getting that tingling feeling that someone was watching her. she glanced curiously over her shoulder, noticing the person behind her before looking back to what she had already been looking at. it took a moment before she registered who was actually standing there. she quickly turned around again, this time actually looking at the person in a bit of disbelief. "charlie?"
